Obituary of Lois Barbara Macdonald

Lois Barbara (Rising) Macdonald of Rothesay, NB passed away peacefully on May 21, 2010 at Rocmaura Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Lois was born in Saint John on May 10, 1925, the youngest child of Harold and Enid Rising. She was a graduate of Saint John High School and the Nursing Class of 1946 of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. She worked for the VON prior to her marriage to Dr. Roderic Glencross (Glen) Macdonald, to whom she was married for 62 years. Lois lived her entire life in the Saint John area and enjoyed many years at her winter home in Florida. She was very active in the community as a volunteer, serving on the board of several charitable organizations, and was a long time member of St. Paul’s (Valley) Anglican Church, where she had served as president of the Needlework Society. More recently, she was a member of St. Paul’s Church Rothesay. Lois will be greatly missed by her husband, Glen, and children, Jane (Jim) Stewart, Alan (Linda) Macdonald, Robert (Dale) Macdonald, and Cynthia (David) Dobbelsteyn. She is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Howell of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Maggie, Cameron and Lindsay Stewart; Mahri (Daniel) Machado and Ryan Macdonald; Erin and Gregory Dobbelsteyn; as well as her great grandchildren, Jordan, Aidan and Madan Machado; several cousins, many nieces and nephews, and beloved friends. Lois was predeceased by a brother, Theodore Rising, and a sister, Helen Likely. Visitation will take place at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, (634-7424) on Monday May 24, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm, and on Tuesday May 25 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Rothesay on Wednesday, May 26 2010 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
