Obituary of Robert Jordan Myers

Robert Jordan Myers of Saint John passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Halifax, Nova Scotia on December 12, 1915, he was a son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Pennell) Myers. As a youngster, Bob was wounded in the Halifax Explosion of 1917.  Bob was employed, in his early years, with Robert Simpson Eastern Ltd. in Halifax. During World War II, he served as a civilian in the Naval Service as Naval Stores Officer and Motor Transport Officer. At the same time, he was associated and active with the National Film Board and the War Assets Corporation. He was employed with the Canadian General Electric Co. Ltd. for 30 years as Branch Operations Manager until his retirement in 1976.  Bob was a Charter Member and a Past National Director of the Guild of Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional Accountants in Toronto; a Past Governor of the Canadian Credit Men's Trust Association; a former member and Director of the Carleton Curling Club; a former Executive Member of the Junior Board of Trade; a former member and Past President of the New Brunswick Personnel Association.  Bob was also a Charter Officer of #105 Composite Masonic Lodge in Halifax, and a member of Carleton Union Mason Lodge in Saint John, as well as a Shriner and member of the Luxor Temple. Formerly an active member of Portland United Church, Bob served as Chairman of the Committee of Stewards and a Past President of the Men's Club. He was active as Treasurer of the Building Committee in the construction of the present church on Newport Crescent and a life member of the Board of Trustees of the church. He was also a member of the Lancaster Diamonds Senior Citizens Club.  Bob is survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Moffatt of Saint John; a step-son-in-law John McHenry of Calgary; step grandchildren Kaitlin, Sean, and Mark McHenry, all of Calgary; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Clara (Anthony) Myers; his second wife, Helen "Honey" (Moffatt) (Syversen) Myers; a step-daughter, Kristine McHenry; and a brother, Roy Myers.  Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, at which time the funeral service will be held from the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
