Obituary of Sister Geraldine E. M. McIntyre

<p>McINTYRE-the death of Sister Geraldine E. M. McIntyre (Sr. Grace Marie) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Sister was born in Montreal, a daughter of the late William G. and Geraldine C. (Quinlan) McIntyre, and her family returned to Saint John when she was seven years old. She received her elementary schooling at Holy Trinity and St. Joseph's Schools and graduated from St. Vincent's Girls' High School. Geraldine entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1939.&nbsp; After her novitiate, now Sr. Grace Marie, she continued her studies and received her NB Teacher's License.</p> <p><br />She began her teaching ministry as a supply teacher at St. Thomas, Holy Trinity, St. Patrick's, and St. Peter's School. Finally in 1946 she taught at Holy Trinity School until 1960 when she transferred to St. Pius X School and remained there until 1972. During these years Sister received her Bachelor of Teaching Degree and her Bachelor of Arts Degree and entrance into a Master of Education Degree from UNB. In 1972 Sister was missioned to Burnaby, B.C., where she taught at Holy Cross School until 1975. After a sabbatical year, Sister returned to the east and taught at St. Bernard's and Mountain Rd. School in Moncton until 1980. She returned to Burnaby where she taught at St. Michael's School until 1989 when she retired from the classroom and became a volunteer support teacher and Religious Coordinator at the same school until 1996. Back in Saint John, Sister continued to volunteer her services to Holy Trinity School until it closed; a total of 50 years in the classroom. Sister continued to volunteer her services by visiting at Rocmaura and Ruth Ross Residence until she moved to Ruth Ross as a permanent resident.</p> <p>She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward J., Leonard W., and Joseph A. "Peter" McIntyre. She is survived by 9 nieces, 6 nephews, 8 grandnieces, and 12 grandnephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent's Chapel on Thursday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Evening Prayer Vigil will be held on Wednesday evening at seven o'clock.</p>
