Obituary of Merriam Elizabeth Gillis

With full appreciation of a life well-lived, but saddened to see her go, we announce the passing, in her 100th year, of Merriam Elizabeth (Page) Gillis beloved wife of the late Joseph Gillis on April 9, 2022.

Born November 9th, 1922 to John and Elizabeth (Ball) Page.  Mom graduated from McAdam High and Provincial Normal Schools. She experienced plenty in her career, starting at age 19 teaching grades one through nine in a one-room schoolhouse to retiring in a school with multiple classes of the same grade.  Mom and Dad married in June 1946 four months after Dad returned from overseas and they had a happy 67 years together.  Mom’s hobbies, or passions, included Order of the Eastern Star, quilting, square dancing, traveling throughout North America and Europe with Dad, gardening, making preserves and feeding others.  You never left the table until all the pots were empty.  Mom saw many technological changes that made life easier, yet, was always mindful of the hard times through the great depression and WWII.

Predeceased by her brothers John Page and Alfred Page.

Survived by son Brian (Diana), Granddaughter Jennifer Byers (Peter) and great-grandchildren Sean, Sati, Sophie, Anderson and Maddox, son Duane (Tammy Stevens) Grandson Kyle Gillis (Brittany) and great-grandchild Timothy, Granddaughter Meredith Gillis (Justin Sullivan).  Also survived by sisters Elouise Caulfield and Velma Moffit, plus many nieces and nephews.
