Obituary of Leonard Irvine Morgan

The death of Dr. Leonard Morgan occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 following a period of failing health. He was the son of the late George and Nelly Higgins of Saint John. He was predeceased by his wife, Avis; his only daughter, Lynn, and his biological parents, Otty and Cory (Higgins) Morgan, of Vancouver. He is survived by six sons: John (Julie Scriver) of Fredericton, Bob (Joanne Chiasson) of Saint John, Stephen of St. Andrews, David (Mary Ann) of Saint John, Tim (Gina Gagnon) of Chicoutimi Quebec, and Jeff (Lugene Blando) of Fredericton. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Christine (Jason Ahearn), Max, Wendy (Joe Harriman), Ben, Liam, Lesley, Alice (Andy McCallum), Leigh, Francie, Mike, Laura, Eric, Ava and Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Rachael and Sean Ahearn. A graduate of McGill Medical School, Len spent more than 50 years as a family physician and allergist. He was a member of the NB Society of Asthma and Allergies, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NB, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the Saint John Medical Society. He was Associate Professor of Family Medicine, and Allergy and Asthma for Dalhousie Medical School in Saint John and was the president of Allergy Atlantic Limited. He served on many community projects over the years and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary International. Len’s love of music, especially singing was well known. He performed on stage in many musicals, choirs and vocal groups including The Friends of Music and Cantus. He was the founder of The Rotary Boys’ Choir. Growing up in Indian Town and Epworth Park he loved the Saint John River and sailed her waters most of his life. He was a member of the RKYC where he served as Commodore and was a member of the lsle of Pines Group. He was also member of Portland United Church, the Riverside Golf and Country Club, and the Union Club. Visitation will be at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010. The funeral will take place at Portland United Church (50 Newport Crescent) at 1 pm on Friday, April, 23, 2010. Interment will follow at Fernhill Cemetery (Westmorland Road). In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Medical Charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
