Obituary of Elvina Esther Brighton

It is with appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Elvina Brighton of Saint John, wife of the late Ronald Brighton, announce her passing which occurred on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.  Born in Barnesville on December 25, 1941, she was the only daughter of the late Russell and Annie (Rodgers) Dalling.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Elvina enjoyed a full career in office administration, finally retiring at age 60 with over 20 years of service with AVIS.

She always took great comfort in her faith and was an active member of the Silver Falls United Church community and most recently Harmony Church.  Elvina loved giving back to her community and spent significant time over the years volunteering with Meals on Wheels, among many other church community functions.  She deeply loved spending time with her coffee friends, and attending dances and music events.  Vi or Vinnie which most called her, was blessed to have such great friends and many cherished memories from their trailering days to their summers at the cottage and their holiday trips to Calais.

Most of all, she treasured the time spent with her loved ones and always looked forward to family gatherings where she was surrounded by her nearest and dearest.  She was Nanny to all her grandchildren and supported them in every way and was very active in their life events.  She adored her grandchildren and her sweet great-grandchildren…as they were her world.  She will be forever missed.

Elvina will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sherry Sheldrick (Brian); precious grandchildren, Kendra Brighton, Kyla Brighton, MacKenzie Kvist (Matthew), Brandon Brighton and Erin Sheldrick; adored great-grandchildren, James, Jasiah, Jax and baby Shelby on the way; daughter-in-law, Coralina Brighton, aunts, one uncle, nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Elvina was predeceased by her son, Wayne Brighton and brothers, Gordon and Royce Dalling.

Her final days were spent at the Saint John Regional Hospital being cared for by a wonderful team of nurses and physicians.  A heartfelt thank you to all staff of Extramural, Palliative Care, 5CN, 3AN and the ER, as well as physicians Dr. Greg O’Brien, Dr. Michael, Dr. Mohheudin, and her family physician Dr. Vasiliki Papadopoulos.  We are forever grateful for your exceptional care.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will take place on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 12:00 PM.  Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.

For those who wish, memorial donations in Elvina’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
