Obituary of Roger Edward Stoddard

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roger Stoddard, husband of Charlene (Smith) Stoddard, announces his passing which occurred on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on October 5, 1958, in Musquodoboit Harbour, NS. Roger was the son of the late Cecil and Irene (Parker) Stoddard.

Roger was employed with NB Power for over 40 years. He was a dedicated father and husband of 41 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed baseball, softball and hockey. Roger will be remembered as a proud dad and Papa. He loved spending time playing with his granddaughter Arya and making memories with her, playing with his drone and dancing to his music. Roger was a longtime volunteer with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), a proud advocate for patient rights and he was a passionate educator, public speaker and mentor. In his spare time he shared stories, enjoyed using his computer and was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Roger was a devoted member of the Harbour Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Charlene; son, Kyle (Sara) Stoddard; daughter, Jillian Stoddard; brother, Wayne (Darlene) Stoddard; sisters, Linda (Gunther) Faber and Muriel (Gordon) Eisan; beloved granddaughter, Arya; special in-laws Wayne and Claudette Smith; brother-from-another-mother, Eric Gardner and elected father figure, Duke Murray, several nieces, nephews, extended family and many close friends.

Roger’s family would like to thank the church community of Harbour Church for their love and support over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff of the SICU at the Saint John Regional Hospital, especially Melissa and Dr. Mark Tutschka. Thank you to Roger’s three dedicated family physicians, Dr. Donald Craig, Dr. Keith Wilson and Dr. Benjamin Knight. A very special thanks to Joe Foote and his staff at Quality Respiratory Care (QRC) in Saint John for their many years of care and making opportunities happen for Roger. Heartfelt gratitude to his dedicated homecare worker, Charlene Dow for her over 15 years of dedicated service. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
