Obituary of John Wayne Stewart

John Wayne Stewart, age 64, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 28, 2025.

John was born on April 20, 1960, to John and Bertha Stewart in Saint John, NB, with many maternal family members living in PEI. For years, he worked at Centracare before retiring in 2019.

John had two daughters, Robyn (Dave) MacGowan and Michelle (Sasha) Stewart. His young grandsons, Noah and William, brought him great joy in recent years with their silly antics.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Judy. He is survived by his sisters Linda, Carolyn, and Lori. While he had a few nieces and nephews, he shared a special bond with his nephew Travis, who lived close by.

Growing up, John loved playing hockey and never lost his passion for the game. He faithfully followed the Philadelphia Flyers. He enjoyed spending time tinkering in the garage and hanging out with his buddies. Music was always playing— loudly! He was a regular at the Fish and Brew and loved being social. At home, he enjoyed cooking, especially pizza or a juicy steak on the BBQ.

John’s family would like to thank Karl at Westport Residential Centre for his care this past year. When a family member struggles with dementia, it takes a special person to not only care for the resident but also support their loved ones. Karl has gone above and beyond, and we are grateful for the love he extended to us all.

A visitation will be held at Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, West on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

A celebration of life will take place at the MacGowan residence on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 3:00pm. We will be celebrating with dad’s favourite, Romano’s Pizza and seafood chowder. Please email jwstewart506@gmail.com for address. All are welcome.

A private graveside service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity that helps bridge the gap in addiction and mental health resources in our community, such as The Romero House or Outflow Men’s Shelter. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.ca.
