Sad to hear of your father's passing this week. Your wonderful parents have been in my thoughts this past few days.
Your Mom was such a good cook and Graydon was so lucky to have her and to raise such a great family together.
He was such a fixture in both the construction industry in Saint John but more than that he was an incredible personality and a supporter to his community. And yes...the twinkle in his eye...I remember commenting on his vanity plates "GC" for his Mercedes coupe saying "Graydon Chiarella" and he said "no...German Car!"
As fellow transplanted Montrealers your parents were wonderful friends to my late dad Peter and my mom Carole.
We will cherish their memories forever.

Garry!!! Thank you so much for this note! Peter and Carole and Mom and Dad had great times together, didn't 'they? That was a great friendship. I remember you guys (you used to drive me to UNBSJ at times along Foster Thurston, like a bit of a maniac if I remember....LOL) and the good times our parents had together. So sorry to hear about your Dad, he was a warm and gregarious man. I love that story about the license plates - so Dad! Hope to see you on Saturday!

Gina and Family,
Please accept my most heartfelt condolences regarding the passing of your beloved father and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
His obituary was beautifully written. It so accurately described every aspect of who Graydon was and how he cared for his fellow "man" that I won't even attempt to add anything. In fact, I may "borrow" some of the thoughts expressed within the piece as I continue to tell stories of him.
I know you already understand the respect and admiration I hold for Graydon in addition to the gratitude I have for experiencing his and Margaret's presence in my and my family's life.
Please take care of each other and keep the Faith.
Most Sincerely,
-Tony Correia

Dear Tony, Thank you so much for your kind words. Dad was a special man who got so much joy out of being around people. He told me that he felt most alive and happy when he was doing something around the house or helping a neighbour. The fact that he and mom were friends with your parents says much of your parents and I am sure this friendship helped with mom and dad's move to Chapel Hill. It is hard to lose dad, but with each Inukshuk we see, we will remember.

To the Chiarella family - my most sincere condolences on the passing of Graydon. I worked with him at Que-Mar Construction from the mid '80's until his retirement in 1990. I was always impressed by his 'lead by example' work ethic. For that, he had the unwavering support of his employees. Outside of work, I knew him to be a kind, generous, energetic and civic minded Tilley wearing gentlemen. He touched many lives and will leave a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Cindy, thank you so much for the glowing tribute to Dad! I'm still looking at those photos you delivered of his jobs! He sure was a "lead by example" kinda guy, always in the hole! Thank you for being part of his life and such a good friend to him and Mom.

My deepest condolences to the whole family, We lost a great man but heaven gained an even better Angel Graydon was my god father and I will never forget his big booming voice or his laughter, He was always a joy to be around, He was also one of my fathers best friends and we were able to get the two together shortly before my father passed away. That visit was one of my fathers favorite memories so thanks to Gina and the Chiarelli clan in helping to make these arrangements. RIP Graydon and please give Margaret a hug for me as well. Shirley, thank you for your kind words and memories of dad. Dad and your dad, Buzzy were lifelong friends and we have fond memories of them together at our house as kids. I was lucky to be at my Aunt Helen's when your dad got to visit with dad and it was touching to see two old friends together for one last time. Perhaps they'll meet up again - let's hope.

I wish to extend my condolences to the Chiarella family on the passing of Graydon and Margaret. I knew them both professionally. I remember the first time I met Graydon when Que-Mar came to the city in 1979, and he was leading the installation of new storm sewer in Rothesay. Graydon quickly earned respect as a man who could get things done. I also remember his sense of humour. His ability to organize construction activities was much renowned, and greatly contributed to the growth of the city. Margaret, in her office management role, also kept the work running smoothly. They were a great team, who I respected very much. The family’s pride in them is very much deserved.

Our deepest condolences to the Chiarella family. I remember what a kind and caring person Graydon was. When his crew piped our street in Gondola Point he was right in the ditch with his men. Our boys were just small and fascinated by the equipment and what the men were doing. Graydon stopped what he was doing and took the time to speak with them. We never forget those that are kind to us.
We will keep you in our prayers as you celebrate the life of such a good man.
Sincerely,

Our sincere deepest condolence for the the passing of your Dad Gina and family. I only knew Graydon through Gina since we both visited at the care home for our parents who were neighbours there. After reading the messages left by those who knew him and the things posted by the family here on this site has given me a view into who Graydon was and how he was dearly loved and respected and for good reason. I could tell by just seeing how Gina took care of her Dad. I wish I knew him before he became ill.
Our sincere deepest condolences

Gerald and Ellen, thank you for your sweet sentiments! It was lovely meeting your Mom, Jeannine, Dad's neighbour at the nursing home. We had many fun conversations with her. The fact that we got to meet so many members of her family was a bonus! You also took amazing care of your Mom. Our journeys intertwined. Take care. I'm sure Dad will look Jeannine up when he gets to the Pearly Gates!

Thank you Carol for your memories of dad. It is so nice to know that dad touched people in the community and of course had a full supply of Inukshuks in his trunk at all times. I live in Montreal and whenever I would visit family in Rothesay, I'd see his gifts in stores and outside homes and it would make me laugh. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still passing them out in the afterlife.

Carol and Rick, thank you so much for your note! Yes, he was a Tim's groupie. He loved going into see the gang and did so up until he moved into the nursing home. Ha, yes, his trunk was always full of Inukshuks, wasn't it! It warms my heart to think that you're thinking of him when you see one out in your travels!

I did not know your father very well, but chatted occasionally after church, him donning his signature fedora, looking very dapper! I once asked him how he got such blue eyes, and he said they were from his mother. I heard he was building decks etc for people at Chapel hill and doing all kinds of errands etc there, and I can imagine from the twinkle in his eyes, he could be full of mischief. My sincere condolences to all the family. Reta and Angus King

Thank you Reta and Angus for your kind words. Dad really was a card, and he would wear blue and tell us it was to match his blue eyes. He didn't like to have idle hands so I am not surprised that he was building decks and running errands. We will miss him - he was a great dad.

Joe, Dad spoke fondly of you and I remember seeing you at the house on Rothesay Road a few times. I think you were one of the "originals" to join him on the job. I'd love to know more about some jobs. One of my favorite pictures, which I'll post here, is you and him installing those big anchors at the foot of King Street!

Graydon was so wonderful helping my mother Phyllis Mountain. He would come by and visit, she would make him cookies and sweets which he loved
Graydon would help out doing odd fixes around the house and her garden that she needed
He was such a big part of our community, always there to lend a helping hand.
He would tell us wonderful stories of all of his seniors.
Everyone loved Graydon and everyone appreciated everything he did for our church & whole community .
He will be greatly missed.
Our condolences to your family

Pam, thank you for your sentiments. We remember Phyllis! She was one of his "girls" that he "took care of". He spoke of her often and I think in fact she was the last one that he visited before he "retired" from that role. I remember the day he came home and told us he just couldn't visit Phyllis anymore. He didn't say why, but we knew it was because of his Alzheimer's. I don't know what he told her, but I hope she understood. I know their heavenly reunion will be joyful!
