Please accept my profound condolences, I knew Joe from growing up on Main St. He was the age of my older brothers', then when he was on The SJPD, I had worked the Jail for several years, Joe and I crossed paths occasionally, he always took the time to stop, chat, and ask how all the family was. Joe was a good, honest, hard worker, who was always a pleasure to chat with.
May you take comfort knowing we share in your loss and strength from our prayers.
Sincerely,
Paul D Smith

My sincere condolences to Jackie and her family on Joe's passing, I worked as a Volunteer in the Identification Section with Joe and got to know him there along with the other forensic technicians. Joe and Jackie were kind enough to remember my late mother when she passed away several years ago. This was an unexpected kindness which I appreciated very much.
You're in God's Hands now, Joe. Jackie and your family, please be gentle with yourselves during this difficult time.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I have many good memories of Joe. I came from away but Joe always made me feel welcomed at the Police Force and off duty. Many kind things he did for me without being asked, such as after one of his visits to my home province bringing me a salted cod fish which my wife and I enjoyed Joe was always a fixture at moose hunting and if he could not make it many good stories were spoken about his past hunting trips. He will be missed by many.

A complete and utter surprise hearing about Joe tonight, we worked together from 79 till he retired. I gave the final goodbye to Joe over the radio from the Comm centre the night he retired and still have that recording. I liked Joe, as a lot of other people did, you could ask him anything and he’d know the right answer, he was a mentor to me and other members of the Force.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jackie and their family.

First met Joe when his father Syd brought him into Calp's dept store in the early 70's. Very polite young man well spoken and good natured and I was surprised he later chose the Police Force as he didn't seem to have that tough image one would think is necessary for that career, but he proved me wrong. I would meet Joe from time to time over the years and he always remembered me and we would catch up in conversation like we were old friends. As I said he was very polite and out going person and I send all his family my condolences in your loss
