I will always smile when I remember how Dave would hold court at the debrief that was always held at the end of the East Coast Games. The debrief was held over a few beers at the East Coast Games 'warehouse', which was really Dave's west side garage. Lots of laughs were held at these events, and Dave's good cheer was one of the reasons I've continued to volunteer with the games over the years. He was a great supporter of youth sports, and Saint John. He'll be missed by all who took part in the annual games, and they are a great part of his wonderful legacy in the community.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Dave’s passing. Those of us who were privileged to work with Dave understood his remarkable talents. Thousands of young people benefited from his skills as a guidance counsellor. Dave took great delight in following the progress of the many students who advanced into the world of work or additional education opportunities. We will all miss him. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Susan, Jess and all the members of Dave’s family.

Jessica is one of the most reliable, there for you, good morals, and shoot it straight kinda friend. She always has your back. I know where she got many of these qualities.
So I had completely switched my career path for about a year and was freaking out. Jessica knew exactly who could help me with the work I was then undertaking. Never faulting on her word and like a solid figure, Dave immediately reached out and gave me advice. I wanted to share with you his words, because I think it truly shows who Dave was as a person:
“ The big thing is that you need to let them know you care. A lot of listening & just tweaking their mindset. Life is all about choices - you have to make ones that put you in a better place” - Dave.
He cared. Whenever I would see Dave he would take a genuine interest in how I was doing and follow up with me on things I could have told him a year ago. He remembered. Even if it was a stupid story about how to fend off a bear in the woods “Hey bear, whoa bear!!” ..(I’m thinking Dave and Jess will be the only two people to get a laugh out of that story haha).
To Sue, Jessica, Scott, and Wren, I could not be more sorry for your loss. His life was cut too short. His impact, kindness, and genuine care, will live on for generations to come.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dave. For over six decades we shared memories, laughter and experiences that I will cherish forever. Recently at our 50th SJHS Reunion, Dave and I spent those few days reminiscing about the adventures we had in our early teens, through high school and at U.N.B. He still called me "kid" at the reunion, a throwback reference from the late 60's. It is evident from the long list of condolences that people felt his kindness and generosity of spirit. When I think of Dave, I will remember him wearing his Delta-Phi jacket and holding onto his beloved rugby ball. This is the boy who became the teacher, coach, mentor, teammate, husband, father and granddad that we admire, love and will forever miss.
My sincere condolences to each family but specifically to the girls in his life who brought him such joy, Susan, Jessica and Wren.

A wonderful friend, a great coach and, above all, a good person. Teacher, coach, family man. The same guy who would toss his clipboard about a missed offside and yet be the first to thank the refs after the game. The same guy who couldn’t sleep before big games and yet would give all credit to the players after the win. He was, for many years, the beating heart of Saint John Rugby, and as such, influenced so many lives. The immense footprint he leaves behind can only be filled by the cherished memories that his rugby family hold dear. A life well lived.
Our deepest condolences to Sue, Jess and the family.

We live right across the street, and I remember he came over and gave us cookies when we were moving in. He also showed me how to shovel the storm drain in front of my house (as a first time home owner I hadn't thought to do it, and I saw him out there doing it and ran out to help). He also complimented me once for shoveling my entire driveway by hand after a huge snow storm. He called across the street, "Wow! I'm impressed!"
I only had a few interactions with him, but he was always kind and genuine.
Big love and sorrow from us across the street, if his family sees this. Death comes too soon every time, and it always hurts. He's in my thoughts and memories.

I played with David 50+ years ago – early “Trojan“ days. My favourite memory was playing outside centre with Dave on the wing. He’s the only player I could say this about: I could pass without looking towards him. I knew where he was. He was always there!
I think this was characteristic of who David was… Always there! I can only imagine the number of testimonies to that effect.
To David’s wife and family: be assured of my prayer…
