Obituary of Rosamond “Roz” Mooney
It is with great sadness, but appreciation for a life well-lived, the family announces the death of Rosamond Iva “Roz” Mooney of Saint John, wife of the late John P. Mooney, P.Eng., which occurred at home on February 15, 2025. Born in Saint John on March 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Doris (Friars) Alexander.
Roz grew up in the Saint John area and was a graduate of Saint John High School and Saint John Vocational School. After completion of her schooling, she worked for several years at the Saint John Board of Trade, where she met her future husband John, and later for Emerson-Fisher and Sumner Company. A natural entrepreneur, for many years Roz owned and operated the Carriage Trade ladies’ boutique in Uptown Saint John, initially with partner Lala Polowin, then on her own. From her frequent buying trips, she became well-known among members of the garment trade in Montreal. She was also well-known among New Brunswick political circles as she supported John in his political endeavours over the years.
A long-time member of St. John the Baptist Church, more recently Roz attended the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. For many years Roz was a member of the NB Liberal Association and was recently honoured as a 50-year Life Member of the Union Club in Saint John. Roz was a member of the Westfield Golf Club, and looked forward to her weekly bridge game.
Roz (“Mimi”) truly enjoyed visits with her grandchildren, and when her great-grandchildren arrived for a visit, Mimi was so delighted.
She is survived by sons, William White (Echo Antworth) of Halifax; Alexander White (Deborah) of Calgary and daughter Holly LeMesurier (James) of Saint John; five grandchildren; Christa Singh (David Singh), Andrew (Gloria) and Colin White, Anne (Silas Poole) and Ross LeMesurier; seven great-grandchildren: Mackenzie White, Emma, Isabelle and Adelyn White, Maximus and Tiberius Singh, and Sadie Poole; sisters-in-law Audrey Alexander of Sussex and Evelyn Morris of Halifax; and several nieces and nephews.
Aside from her husband and parents, Roz was predeceased by her brothers: Delbert, Donald and Gerald Alexander; sister, Gayle Tracey; and her special niece, Rosamond Kim Alexander.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Bridget Tutschka, her caregivers Helena, Laura, Francis, Lucie, Maryclare and Vivian, staff from Extra-Mural, and special friend Mary Beth Cronin, for their kindness and care of our mother over the past several years.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). Visitation will occur on February 20, 2025, between 6 and 8 pm.
