Obituary of Cecil Harold Fletcher
It is with great sadness that the family of Cecil Harold Fletcher announces his passing on March 12, 2025, in Saint John NB. He was born in Petitcodiac on July 30,1946 to Harold and Marjorie (Wilson) Fletcher. He was the oldest of four children: John, Marguerite, and Arthur.
Cecil graduated from Petitcodiac Regional High School, where he often said that he spent the best years of his life participating in varsity sports and clubs.
Cecil earned a diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology. He dedicated over 30 years to the telecommunications industry with NBTel and then formed his own consulting firm where he spent time working in New York state during 9/11. He worked another 10+ years' service as an innovator and mentor in the local telecommunications industry.
Cecil devoted significant time to serving his community. He served on the Hampton town council as EMO Director, the Hampton Curling Club, and the Hampton Rotary (One of his proudest achievements was being awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International). He could be found coaching, officiating, or administrating in Minor sports with his sons and grandson. He was active in old timer’s hockey, men’s softball, curling and golfing. (He was also a bit of a local whip pitch phenomenon in his day.)
In retirement Cecil travelled with Dianne and dedicated himself to cherishing his role as a grandfather to Emily and Sam. He also enjoyed continuing with his community work.
Cecil is survived by his wife Dianne, stepsons Mark and David Gotell, His grandchildren Emily Appleby and Samuel Gotell, sister-in-law Louise Fletcher and first cousins, Ron Wilson, Pat Palmer, Stewart Killam, and Ruth.
Cecil will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, mentor, innovator, community leader, friend and above all a kind, compassionate and rational human being. We all could gain a lot by being just a little more like Cecil.
The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). As per Cecil's wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visiting or funeral service. Online condolences can be made at www. castlefh.ca
