Obituary of Pieter Kalverboer
With heavy hearts, the family of Pieter Kalverboer announces his passing on, March 15th 2025, at Embassy Hall in Quispamsis, NB.
Pieter is predeceased by his beloved wife of forty-four years, Karen (nee Kirkwood). He is also predeceased by his parents Jacob and Maartje (nee Koeman), his brother
Simon, sister-in-law Geer, as well as his sister Neeltje (Klaas).
Pieter is survived by his three loving daughters, Matina Kalverboer Tayes (Colin), Kenda Stathopoulos (George), Petra Snook (Monty), and six beautiful grandchildren: Walker and Carson Tayes, Roman and Stella Stathopoulos, and Mya and Leo Snook. Pieter is also survived by his siblings in the Netherlands Jan (Bep), Cornelis (Anneke), Jacob (Reinke), Marinus (Ada), Tryntje, Sijtje (Bram) and Jacoba (Piet). In addition, Pieter is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth Kirkwood (Brenda) of Dartmouth, NS, and nephews Timothy (Bronwyn) and Stephen (Laura). He leaves behind many faithful and caring cousins, nephews, and nieces as well as many loving friends in the Netherlands and Canada.
Pieter was born on June 7th, 1949, in the Netherlands. He was 18 years old when he arrived in Canada. He first met Karen while public ice skating after he accidentally knocked her down. Mom said he was going too fast, but Dad was a gentleman, helped her up, and asked her to skate with him.
Pieter proudly served on the Saint John Fire Department until his retirement as a Captain in 2009. His free time was often spent working in his gardens, grafting apple trees, cultivating giant pumpkins, growing grapes, blueberries, corn, and so many other delicious foods. He was actively involved in archery and greatly enjoyed hunting. Pieter had a gift for hospitality, always welcoming friends and family to visit. Their door was always open.
His family would like to thank all who prayed for and cared for Pieter.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home,152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis. Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (2 Hammond River Rd, Quispamsis, NB, E2E 4Z8) July 5 th 10am – 12pm, followed by a funeral service at the church at 1pm.
Remembrances may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
