Obituary of Kenneth John Campbell
It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth (Ken) Campbell announce his peaceful passing surrounded by family on March 16, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Ken was born in October, 1945 in Saint John, NB, to the late Hartley and Annie (Kelley) Campbell. He grew up on Wellesley Ave in the north end of Saint John and had many fond memories of time spent there with his friends and siblings. After graduating from Vocational School, Ken married the love of his life Elaine (Nicolle) in May of 1969, at Douglas Avenue Christian Church (now The Harbour Christian Church), where they met in the youth group. In 1972 they moved into a 2-family home on Bentley Street, which they eventually renovated to a single-family home where they raised their family and remained for over 50 years.
His career spanned more than 30 years with the City of Saint John, initially in the summer as a surveyor, then in Housing, Planning & Property Development. He retired in 2003 from his final and favorite role as Deputy Market Clerk of the Saint John City Market. He was a “jack of all trades” who could fix or build anything, and was always doing things around the Bentley Street house or tinkering in either his upstairs workshop or in the basement. Ken was a member of The Harbour Christian Church where he faithfully spent many hours doing cleaning, maintenance and renovations at the Douglas Avenue building.
Ken is survived by his wife of 55 years Elaine (Nicolle), along with children Bonnie (Jim) Eadle, Stacy (Dean) MacKinnon and Peter (Wendy) Campbell, nine grandchildren (Eric, Ryan, David, Timothy, Lauren, Michael, Will, John, Emily), six great-grandchildren and his cherished little fur-baby Lucy.
He will be missed by his siblings Patricia (Graham) Kaiser, David Campbell (Mary Devlin) and Heather Campbell, sister-in-law Barb (Ron) Hutton and brothers-in-law David (Debbie) Nicolle and John Ellis, and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by and fondly remembered his sister Carol Ellis.
The family is very thankful for the care he received at St. Joseph’s hospital over the last several months in the GEM unit, TCU (7th floor), and CAM unit. We especially appreciate Dr Keith Wilson and Dr Robin Hao for their compassionate care and kindness during this difficult time.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). A Funeral Service will take place from The Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 - 2:00 PM.
