Janice Baker

Obituary of Janice Lynn Baker

It is with heartfelt sorrow, the family of Janice Baker, wife of Brian Baker, announce her passing on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Bobby’s Hospice.

Born on December 30, 1957, in Saint John, NB she was the daughter of the late James Leo and Dorine Emma (Arthurs) McVane. Janice grew up in Forest Hills, she was a Simonds High and business college graduate. She adored her family and loved spending time with them.

In 1981, she became the loving mother of Brian Jr. After her parents moved to Rothesay, they also moved into the ‘Valley’ and resided in their French Village home for over 30 years.

Janice devotedly carried out duties such as writing and printing weekly bulletins in the early years of her husband’s ministry. After moving to the KV area, she found many happy years of fellowship in the Kings Church, serving as a passionate choir member.

She worked for the Reitman’s company in various capacities over her lifespan, starting as a model in late teens and then customer service representative during several periods in her life. She excelled in dressing room service, helping her customers select the clothes that best suited them and was proud of her work achievements.

She always enjoyed company and laughter of friends and family. Whether it was staying in Red Head with her childhood friend Margie, camping trips with her cousins. Cheryl and Janice were “partners in crime”, with Cheryl’s house offering refuge for coffee, pop, and treats, and a place for regular Saturday night perms or hairdos. In more recent years, Janice enjoyed visiting Sandy in the summer at her Moncton trailer and enjoyed house décor chats with Nancy.

Best known for lovingly tending to her garden and home. Janice found pride in her green lawn, her annual grape harvest with son and family, and grew beautiful flowers and shrubs every summer. Inside, she had a large collection of primitive décor she carefully acquired and arranged and took pride in her clean floors!

Any who knows her knows her absolute greatest love in the world was her granddog, Chet. Between 2017-2024, some of the most challenging yet happiest years of her life, nothing thrilled her more than giving dog massages and sharing snacks on the couch watching YouTube with her best buddy. She truly knew him like no one else and their bond was one-of-a-kind. She also has fond memories of her family dog Gigi growing up. Janice loved to laugh and found joy in simple things, sharing photos of her granddog with coworkers, buying frilly dresses and Happy Meals for granddaughter Emily Baker (5yrs), having a beach day, going to great lengths to find the perfect Christmas tree every year, and she loved a good Dollar store haul. She learned how to play piano as an adult and enjoyed learning Christmas carols, hymns, or theme songs.

In later years, her devotion to her husband was ever so evident, despite her own health challenges, she rose to the occasion to bring joy to his life by driving him to the Westside for coffee and groceries. Their faithful steadfast companionship, together in faith, lasted until the end.

In the last year or two, Janice had been praying and wishing for a ‘friend’ (sibling) for Emily. In her final days she was content to know her 2nd grandchild was going to be arriving any day, providing life-long company for her beloved ‘Boo’ (Emily).

Her never-failing faith and strength continued to the end of her days. Many thanks to Extramural Care, the Oncology Department and Bobby’s Hospice for their quick response and bringing Janice comfort and peace in her final days.

Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) with visiting and a Celebration of Janice’s Life at a time to be announces in the following days. For those who wish, donations in memory of Janice can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
