Obituary of Evelyn Jean Starr
Evelyn Jean (Koski) Starr passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Glenelm, QC on June 25, 1928, she was a daughter of the late John and Emma (Thompson) Koski.
In January 1986, Jean and her family moved to their Rothesay home where they were members of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Jean was an active participant in the Altar Guild, Women’s Guild and the ACW Quilting Guild. She was a regular player in the Rothesay Bridge Club.
After retirement from her long career as an educator, she did supply teaching at local schools and was a swimming instructor at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Jean had many wonderful friends whom she loved chatting with regularly on the phone. She was very sociable and loved meeting people.
Jean’s boys were the apples of her eyes. In spite of their shenanigans, they brought her great joy and she was very proud of them. ‘Gramma’ loved the times spent with Emma and Liam at their nursery school, sporting events and other activities.
Jean is survived by son John (Colleen) and their children Emma and Liam of Quispamsis, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Feeny.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424), where a visitation will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Private interment to take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to SPCA or a charity of the donor’s choice.
