Obituary of Christina Janet McIntosh
Unexpectedly, Tina McIntosh passed away peacefully on Sunday April 13 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born February 13 1943 in London England, she was the only daughter of Hubert and Edith Plumstead. She lived in Torquay England until the age of 9 then moved to Toronto with her parents. She later lived in Saint Andrews and attended Netherwood School, graduating from the University of New Brunswick in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. At age 20 she took advanced courses in computer systems analysis and programming in England, and at 23 she was in charge of all the retail operations for Selfridge department stores. She returned to Canada in 1966 and took positions as a Systems Analyst at Northern Electric Research Labs in Ottawa, and as a Consultant at Stapleton Dowdswell Kelly and Hunt in Toronto. Dogs were always important to her, providing many adventures at home and across North America for regional and national kennel club competitions. She met her husband William McIntosh (Bill) at the University of New Brunswick and they were married in 1967 in Saint Andrews, under a three plane formation fly pass from the RCAF.
Tina was in a car accident in 1980 which left her in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Despite her disability, she took on large projects such as designing her house, supporting town and church initiatives, and did exceptionally well despite the physical limits of her chair. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and connecting with her children and grandchildren. She stayed close to her friends from the kennel clubs, Netherwood and UNB. She took great pleasure from training her dogs including the Tibetan Spaniel “Sherpa” who was featured on CBC television and radio.
She will be remembered as a strong and intelligent woman, who persevered with humour and good spirit, and was generous and loving to all.
She is survived by her husband William J. McIntosh, son Carl D. McIntosh (Tammy), daughter Jennifer J. West (Julian) and grandchildren Samuel, Rachel and Gabrielle. In her memory, her family asks that friends plant a few more flowers for her this spring.
