Obituary of John Frederick Shannon

Following a few months of illness due to cancer, John Frederick Shannon, born May 28, 1938, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025. John was the son of the late Fred and Mary (Kerwin) Shannon.

John grew up in Grand Bay and trained as a teacher, teaching for 33 years in New Brunswick and Quebec. John loved to travel and did so extensively throughout his life, in the early years by himself and with friends and later with his partner Richard Tassé who passed February 12, 2017. John and Richard especially enjoyed their years at their condo El Remance in Puerto Vallarta near the river Cuale.

In addition to Richard, John was predeceased by his brother Ralph, his sister Shirley Kierstead, his brother-in-law Robert Kierstead, and the family cat and companion Fred. John is survived by his niece Barbara Kierstead-Shanks (late Brian Shanks) of Quispamsis and several special friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (506-634-7424) As per his request John has been cremated with a private interment to be held at a later date.
