Obituary of Eldon Murchie Smith

Eldon Murchie Smith
1957 – 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eldon Murchie Smith on April 24, 2025, at the age of 67. A beloved father, husband, and friend, he peacefully departed this life, loved by his family.

Eldie was a kind and compassionate soul whose empathy knew no bounds. Born on June 13, 1957, to Paul and Marguerite Smith, he dedicated his life to loving others and serving his community. Whether through his involvement in the church, his tireless volunteering, or simply his everyday interactions, he touched countless lives with his warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to others.

Eldie had an affinity for music and admiration for female vocalists, he loved his Marnin’ sunrises over the river and always had “big squeezes” to give, acceptance and respect for people from all walks of life.

He was deeply active in Grand Bay-Westfield and at the Westfield United Church, where he gave his time and energy to uplift others and build a strong sense of fellowship. His ability to understand and forgive—always with an open heart—was nothing short of extraordinary.

Above all, Eldie was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his wife Kathy, his two sons Jeremy and Jordan, his brother Wilfred, Tisha, four grandchildren, Clara (Pearl), Cameron, Tanner and River, who were the pride and joy of his life. His legacy of kindness, humility, and empathy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Westfield United Church. All who knew and loved Eldon are welcome to attend as we celebrate his incredible life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Westfield United Church in his honour.

He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love, light, and joy he brought into our lives.
