Bonnie Christensen

Obituary of Bonnie Louise Christensen

It is with heartfelt sorrow, the family of Bonnie Louise Christensen, beloved wife of Wade Christensen, announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Shannex Embassy Hall, Quispamsis New Brunswick, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 20, 1949, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bonnie knew from a young age that she wanted to become a nurse. She worked tirelessly to overcome numerous obstacles, not only excelling in her studies but also working hard to fund her education. In 1970, she proudly graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing. That same year, she married the love of her life, Wade—a man she lovingly described as her first and best love.

In 2003, Bonnie and Wade made a meaningful move to British Columbia to be closer to their children. Wade entered partial retirement, while Bonnie returned to the work she loved most—home care—serving the downtown Eastside of Vancouver. It was in this role that Bonnie’s deep compassion and unwavering dedication truly shone. She treated every patient with dignity and kindness, as though they were part of her own family, leaving a lasting impression on all who received her care.

Even after retiring from nursing, Bonnie’s nurturing spirit remained ever-present. She continued to offer unwavering love and support to her family and friends, always finding joy in caring for others. One of her greatest pleasures was helping her children by looking after their beloved pets—her cherished “fur grandbabies” Toba, Agnes, and her favorite boy, Pluto.

It was during one of these moments, while caring for the dogs, that Bonnie met Marian (Gord) DeSmet, who became a dear and valued friend. Their friendship was a source of comfort and companionship, and Bonnie treasured the bond they shared.

She found immense joy in spending time with her five beloved grandchildren and was especially grateful to have celebrated her final birthday surrounded by all of them. One of her favorite moments from that day was watching them play a lively game of Twister, their laughter echoing through the banquet room as they chased each other with carefree delight. It was a scene filled with love, joy, and the kind of happiness that Bonnie cherished most.

Bonnie also cherished long conversations with friends and family, and recently enjoyed a memorable VIA Rail journey to reconnect with dear friends in Winnipeg. She treasured every moment spent with her lifelong friend Anna Banera and was deeply touched by visits with Anna’s sons, Tim (Sheri) and Matthew (Karen), and their children.

Bonnie’s voice, her laughter, and her radiant smile are missed every single day. Her passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who loved her.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Wade; her daughter Marisa (Keith) McArthur; her son Kyle (Amron) Christensen; and her adored grandchildren: Caleigh and Declan McArthur, Gunnar, Rhodes, and Saxony Christensen. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother Robert (Linda) Black, her cherished nephew Jeff (Heather) Black, extended family, and many dear friends.

Bonnie’s legacy of love, warmth, and compassion will live on in all who knew her.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). In keeping with Bonnie’s wishes, there will be a celebration of her life in Winnipeg at a later date. For those who wish, donations in memory of Bonnie can be made to Dying with Dignity Canada.
