Obituary of John LeRoy Hovey
It is with heartfelt sorrow, the family of John LeRoy “Jack” Hovey, husband OF Stanita “Neetie” (Saunders), of Quispamsis, announce his passing on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 16, 1940, in Saint John, he was a son of the late Arthur and Melinda (Beck) Hovey. Jack was a long-time employee with Irving Paper until his retirement. Jack and Neetie were married for 62 years, not only building a life together but their home in Quispamsis. He enjoyed carpentry, tinkering with machinery and helping others. Jack was a member of the Lions Club, and a coach for the KV Minor Hockey. Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Besides his loving wife, Jack is survived by his daughters; Susan McDermott (Mark) of Saint John, Debbie Peacock of Pennfield, and Heather Hovey (Thomas Storring) of Dartmouth, NS, sisters; Ann-Marie Tingley (Richard), Judy Queen (George), and Doreen McGill, brothers; Larry Hovey (Sharalynn), and Eric Hovey (Linda), grandchildren; Jessica Chappel (Craig), Sarah McDermott (Mackenzie Walsh), and David Storring, great grandchildren; Connor and Norah Chappel, sister-in-law Carol Hovey, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Norm Hovey.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital and to the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and compassion towards Jack for the last three years, as well as a special thanks to their neighbour Annette LeBlanc.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119), with visiting on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 11:00 – 1PM, with a Celebration of Jack’s Life at 1PM. Interment to take place at St. Luke’s Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Jack can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
