Jim Hutton was a remarkable boss. He (and Ivan Ho too) was a consummate professional who dealt with Kennebecasis Drugs’ customers and employees honourably, fairly and congenially.
Remember Jim’s laughter echoing around the store and what a warm and friendly place it was to work in.
Think Jim’s sense of humour alleviated some of the headaches of starting a new business... like the flood (when the washing machine in the apartment upstairs overflowed, coated the floor with water and damaged a great deal of the stock) and the sprained wrist (when the brand new credit card machine stubbornly refused to work) and numerous other challenges he and Ivan faced.
Jim truly was a remarkable boss.
My deepest sympathy to Linda and their family.

Linda, Peter, Andrew, David, and extended family;
We are so sorry and sad to hear of Jim's passing. Jim had such a pleasant and friendly personality. He was a kind and gentle man and a gentleman. Carolyn and I met Jim and Linda at various Drug Trading events. They were a lovely couple and we enjoyed their company and friendship.
Jim and Ivan placed their confidence in us in selling their KV Drugs Pharmacy. We are truly grateful for their support. Covid and Carolyn's health condition have prevented the presence of the Murphy family on a regular basis.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Ray, Ryan and Jeff Murphy

I first met Jim when he and Ivan worked at Ferro’s Pharmacy up in Woodstock, NB. They were characters for sure, starting their careers and trying to grow up. They roomed together and had a philosophy that you only washed dishes when they were all dirty.
After learning all they could from Sterling they decided to spread their wings and open Kennebacasis Pharmacy. They were a good team , with Ivan as the professional pharmacist and Jim looking after the business side. I worked at Eastern Drug in those days and while sales was my role there, I had a crew that went out and did inventory for pharmacies on the weekends. Jim and Ivan hired us on in year one as they knew of our work at Ferro’s. That was where I first met Linda and always teased her for putting up with Jim.
Later in my career I reconnected with the boys through Drug Trading. Jim was very supportive to me in a number of roles I had and we always talked about the good old days and the laughs we had along the way.
Some folks talk the talk but Jim Hutton walked it.
RIP old friend

Linda, Peter, Andrew & Dave and rest of the family, We are both so sad to hear of Jim’s passing. Wayne and I both have a long history with Kennebecasis Drugs as Jim & Ivan’s first employee was my mother in law Flo. I remember going to see her at the old store with we first started dating. I was lucky enough to work at the store myself from 1999-2017. It was a family not just employees. I loved to go to work everyday with my team Barb & Janet. Everyone was a friend including our customers. What a special time in my life. Jim would always come around in the morning to say hi & chat with all the employees/friends. He really was one of a kind. You are in our hearts & thoughts. Maureen & Wayne Moore & family.

I was so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Jim Hutton. I was fortunate to work for Jim (and his partner Ivan) for over 26 years. I had started there very shortly after the death of my father in 1989. Jim (and Ivan) stepped in and helped during this challenging time as I had a young family and was just really getting started and settled into my pharmacy career.
Over the many years Jim had stepped in as a father figure at times when I needed advice, kind guidance, and as well just a “few “trips to his office when my enthusiasm got the better of me! and I needed a bit of a grounding. Jim and Ivan’s immense patience over my time at Kennebecasis Drugs allowed me to try running clinic days, health forums started the foundation of what was to be my second career. They encouraged me to pursue my passion even though it was disruptive to the workflow as they recognized the desire and focus I had for working in Diabetes.
So many memories came to mind, from Jims amazing Golf game, to how I was always so amazed that despite how messy and stacked up his desk was, he was always able to immediately find a particular note or paper that was needed, to how passionately he wanted a certain picture back that I found of Jim and his pipe standing on the grounds that was to become the new location of Kennebecasis Drugs to that always familiar phrase “ Now Bob, maybe think of it this way ……”. SO many memories, always positive, always encouraging, always fatherly, always fair, always everything you want from a boss, a friend, a mentor, a figure to look up to and strive to share the same morals, from speaking to the kids looking for work, trying to help charities, his community, and his church.
I feel we all know this. People like Jim do not come along very often and I benefited so much for having him in and part of my life. Time for some rest, safe, and away from pain.
To Ivan, a partnership like yours and Jim’s is such a rarity. Over 40 years, like a great marriage must come from a beautiful foundation. I feel for the loss of a partner and the loss of friend, a loss of that I cannot even put into words. Through all the tough times, all the good times, fun times, to have a shoulder and person that inexplicitly always was there and always had your back, my thoughts and prayers are with you as well
To Linda and the family, I can only imagine your loss and I share your grief, and my thoughts and prayers are with you as well.
The world has lost a true gentleman, a positive influence in the world, My mentor, my friend, my idol. Please rest in peace my friend.

Linda and family, Ivan.
My condolences for your loss. May God, friends and family provide comfort at this time and in the future.
Jim is well-thought of in the pharmacy community as well as the wider community in the Kennebecasis Valley. Jim always had a smile when welcoming any customer and made a point to be in the aisles of Kennebecasis Drugs, open to chat to neighbours and friends. This is one of many good attributes for which he will be remembered. A good business man, him and Ivan were strong supporters of the KV Community in so many ways.
I am thankful to Jim and Ivan for their teachings in my formative years as a young pharmacist and proud to have begun my career at KV Drugs where we served the community well/ made long-term relationships with patients.
