Obituary of Madelyn Margaret Thorne

With heavy hearts, the family of Madelyn Margaret Thorne announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on March 15, 1935, in Welsford, NB, Madelyn was the beloved daughter of the late Hardie and Jessie (McCracken) Parker. Throughout her life, Madelyn wore many hats with grace and dedication. She worked at Lancaster Jewelers, Hasson’s House of Beauty, and the Fairport Inn, drove school bus and lent her caring nature to babysitting and housekeeping over the years.

Madelyn found joy in life’s simple pleasures—going for walks, solving word searches and puzzles,  shopping, playing cards, and most of all, spending cherished time with her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and held close the memories made together.

She will be dearly missed by her son Geoffrey (Joanne) Thorne, daughter Marsha Thorne, her siblings Donald (Cathy) Parker and Joan Lyon, sister-in-law Jean Parker, as well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Madelyn was predeceased by her loving husband Edward Thorne; her sons Hardie Edward and Kevin George; her brothers Jack and William; and her sister Connie.

Thank you so much to Bobby’s Hospice phenomenal staff, doctors, and volunteers for the exceptional care and compassion that was given, not only to Mom, but our whole family. You people are angels on earth. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Arrangements have been entrusted to Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 (506-634-1701). A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 12:00 Noon in Welsford Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Welsford Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Madelyn’s memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, the Canadian Cancer Society,  Welsford Cemetery, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
