Obituary of Kathleen Frances Wright

In Loving Memory of Kathleen Frances Wright

Dec 29, 1931 – June 9, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Kay Wright (also lovingly known as Snookie) aged 93 of Rothesay.

Fiercely independent and endlessly curious, Kay lived life on her own terms—full of kindness, generosity and a deep, abiding love for her family. She was the kind of person who never forgot a birthday, always remembered the small details, and genuinely wanted to know, “How did you make out?”—a question she asked often and meant every time.

Born in Montreal, QC, Kay was the oldest child of Cyril and Kathleen Evans and was a woman ahead of her time in every way. She was educated at the Sacred Heart Convent and Holy Cross Convent, both in Montreal and attended secretarial college where she learned bookkeeping. Snookie built a meaningful and accomplished professional life in the bank and later in the wholesale and retail textile industry, for over 50 years. She was a pioneer at a time when there weren’t many career opportunities in this industry for women, and she did it with confidence, grace, and an unshakable work ethic. Kay was admired for her intelligence, friendliness, tenacity and unrelenting belief in doing what was right—never for recognition, but simply because it was who she was.

Kay was adventurous in spirit and always eager to explore the world, whether through travel or new experiences. Her bags were always ready and her heart always open to the next journey.

Kay is survived by her brother-in-law, Patrick Gallagher and her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews to whose lives she played an irreplaceable role: Cyrilla Gauthier (François), Erin Black, Jamie Gallagher (Mary Ann), Shane Gallagher; great nieces and nephews: Jonathan, Dria and William Hachey, Ben (Brianna Basque), Gabie and Tessa Black, Daniel, Mac, Eliza, Nora Gallagher and Avery Gallagher and great-great niece and nephew: Sophie King and Alex Black.

She celebrated every milestone, cheered every success and offered quiet strength and unwavering support through life’s challenges. Her presence in our lives was a gift and her absence will be deeply felt.

Those who knew her will remember her as a woman of rare character—nonjudgmental, open-hearted, warm, and wise. She gave freely of her time and love, and asked little in return except for honesty, a good story and to be kept in the loop.

We take comfort in knowing she passed peacefully with the same quiet dignity with which she lived.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, independence and compassion that will continue to live on through her family and strong circle of life long friends.

Snookie is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Sonny, infant sister, Anne, sister, Margaret (Gallagher), husband, Robert Wright and nephew, Bob Black.

A memorial mass will be held to honour her memory at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay, NB at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 18th. For those unable to attend the Mass, please feel free to join the livestream using the "Mass of Christian Burial Livestream" button by visiting Kay's obituary on Brenan's website. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cause close to her heart in support of empowering woman in need: First Steps, Hestia House, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Rest well, Snookie. You made the world better just by being in it.
