Obituary of George Stanley Anthony Urquhart
It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of George Stanley Anthony Urquhart, husband of Mildred (Bostwick) Urquhart, announces his passing on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Bobby’s Hospice. Born on June 13, 1940, in Montreal, QC, George was the son of Robert and Claire (Stanley) Urquhart. He was proud to be bilingual, bi-cultural, from Montreal and of Scottish ancestry.
George worked in sales and finance most of his working career. He began with selling heavy industrial / construction equipment and then moved to companies that financed heavy equipment. From there, he was recruited by the Bank of Nova Scotia when the bank began giving loans to businesses to finance such equipment. George was moved to the regional Bank of Nova Scotia in Saint John. Upon leaving the bank, he was employed at Low Wood Estates as superintendent and supervisor responsible for maintenance of the buildings and property, retiring in October of 2004, after eighteen years. While in Moncton, he also had his own recording studio “Pro-Am Sound” while he was working full-time at the Bank of Nova Scotia.

He became an avid golferwhich continued into his eighties. It was a highlight for him on a trip to Scotland to visit St. Andrews Golf Course. But above all else, George was a musician enjoying various genres. He played the guitar and sang at house parties, church functions, local Legion events, and nursing homes. He sang in various church choirs and the Saint John Chorale; he had a quartet called the By-Gones that entertained in the community for a time. He and his buddy Dan who played the accordion were invited to entertain at many events over the years. George often said, “I came out of the womb singing, I cried later.”
George was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Rothesay. He was part of their choir (tenor), was initially a part of the group Damascus Roads when it was formed, and he provided music for the Sunday School and the Summer Vacation Bible School, all of which he enjoyed greatly.
