Obituary of Robert Gledstone Garrett
Robert (Bob) G. Garrett of Saint John passed away on September 22nd, 2013 after a long, wonderful life. He was born on April 29th, 1921 and grew up on the Shore Road in Renforth. He was the son of the late Frederick E. and Elizabeth (Richardson) Garrett.
Bob graduated from Saint John High School in 1940 and went to work in the family photography business, Garrett's Photo Supply. He then went on to finish his career managing the photographic department for the K-mart store on the west side. Bob retired from 3 Field Artillery Regiment (The Loyal Company) with the rank of Captain after 23 years of service. He was a lifetime active member of the Anglican Church serving as a lay reader for many years. As a young man, he enjoyed boating with his father and never lost his love or knowledge of the St. John River.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survived by his wife of 62 years to the day, Vivian (Stackhouse); daughters Susan Taylor (Jack), Virginia Higgins (John); sons George (Connie), Philip (Debbie), Frederick and Jeffrey; grandchildren Julie (Mike), Victoria (Marc), Loren (Melissa), Matthew (Martha) and Laura; great grandchildren Garrett, Landon, Caitlin, Finley, Michael and Kristyn and several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents and sisters: Margaret and Virginia.
Special thanks to Nancy and Ralph of Extra Mural who helped the family care for Dad while he was at home.
Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from the Church of the Good Shepherd, 668 Manawagonish Road on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Church of the Good Shepherd or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
