Obituary of Francis Stephen McGillicuddy
The death of Francis "Buddy" McGillicuddy occurred on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born January 27, 1932, he was a son of the late Daniel and Anna (Doyle) McGillicuddy. Buddy began his career as a teacher at St. Peter’s School, then became Principal of St. John the Baptist/King Edward School, and was the Assistant Superintendant of School District 8 when he retired in 1992. Buddy loved spending time with his beloved wife of 53 years, Shirley (Creamer) McGillicuddy, and his children and grandchildren. Buddy was very active and participated in many sports. He also enjoyed being outdoors and spent his summers at Dominion Park beach and loved his daily walks with his special friend, Oscar.
Besides his wife, Shirley, Buddy is survived by a son, John (Jill) of Nova Scotia; daughters: Susan McGraw, Mary-Jane McGovern (Keith), and Kara Leger (Matt), all of Saint John; grandchildren: Brittany, Maggie, Molly, Ryan, Sara, and Aron; his sister, Madeline Hayes of Ontario; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Mike McGraw; and siblings: Helen, Joseph, Marie Montague, Alice Nielsen, and infant sister, Mildred.
Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, 634-7425, with visiting on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 2 pm from St. Rose of Lima Church, 541 Milford Road. Remembrances to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
