Obituary of Ret. Capt. Norman J. M. McGrath

The death of retired fire Captain Norman McGrath occurred unexpectedly on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at his summer cottage. Born in Saint John on November 1, 1947, he was the cherished husband of R. Mary McGrath for 24 years. Norman served his community as a firefighter for 32 years, retiring as Captain in 2007. Following his retirement, he took great pleasure in relaxing at his summer cottage in Long Reach with his family, and entertaining his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Pup". In addition to his loving wife, Mary, Norman is survived by his step-children and children; Ted Sabean (Cindy) of Toronto, ON, Patrick Sabean (Shawna) of Kingston, NB, Shane McGrath of Alberta, Wanda Frigault (Mark) of Saint John, Tammy Thibodeau (Jim) of Saint John and Erica McGrath of Alberta, grandchildren; Dylan Vautour, Devin Sabean, Jake Thibodeau, Julia Sabean, Jackie Chittick, Konrad Chittick and Ella Minshall and two great grandchildren. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Tuesday, July 8 from 7-9 pm and Wednesday July 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Norman’s life will take place on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Brenan’s Bay View Chapel at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norman’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick would be appreciated by the family.
