Obituary of Joseph William Roper

It is with great sadness, the family announces the passing of Joseph William Roper, Sr. on Monday September 15th. He was born October 28, 1929 in Saint John to the late Thomas and Amanda (Cheverie) Roper. Joe leaves behind his loving wife Auline of 60 years, his children Donna (Eddie) Swetman – Alberta, Joseph (Trudy) Roper – Saint John, Noella (Allan) Stordy – Alberta, Patty (David) Roper-Alexander – Alberta, Paul (Debbie) Roper – Texas, Colleen (Bob) Bartlett – Saint John, Shawn Roper-NWT, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and his last surviving sibling, Margaret Lythgoe and sister-in-law Ida Roper. He was predeceased by his brothers Louis and Thomas Roper. Joe’s diverse career within the oil industry, which included work in Saint John, Alberta and Saudi Arabia, was successful, ending in 1986 with his retirement. A few of the things Joe enjoyed most were spending quality time with his family and friends, travelling the world, and working casinos for the Knights of Columbus. Joe volunteered his time at the Ridgewood Veterans Hospital, served as Building Superintendent for St. Rose Parish, and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus (8094). Funeral arrangements are in the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425). Visitation will be held at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm on Wednesday, September 17th, with the Knights of Columbus gathering for a prayer service from 6 to 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 18 at 12:00 noon at St. Rose of Lima Church, 541 Milford Road, Saint John West.
