Obituary of Donald Ralph Holyoke
Mr. Donald Ralph Holyoke of Saint John, beloved husband of Hilda P. (Shuve) Holyoke, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, September 26, 2002, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Woodstock, NB, he was the son of the late William Ralph and Grace (Smalley) Holyoke. Following his graduation from the University of New Brunswick with an Engineering degree in 1946, Donald was employed with NB Tel for over 43 years and retired in 1985. He was an avid stamp collector, an NB Tel Pioneer, a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, a founding member of the 174 Civilian Rifle Association, a senior member of the Saint John Fish and Game Association, and an instructor with the Canadian Power Squadron. Don loved the peace and serenity of the River. Besides his wife of 50 years, Hilda, he is survived by two daughters, Margaret A. Holburn of Saint John and Carolyn S. Holyoke of Ottawa, currently assigned to the Canadian High Commission in Kingston, Jamaica, one son, Wm. Ralph Holyoke (Karen) of Saint John, two grandchildren, whom he adored, Jennifer and Scott Holburn, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Monday, September 30, 2002 at 1:00 PM from Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Extra Mural Hospital Foundation, Hospice of Saint John Inc., or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated.
