Obituary of Joseph V. Walsh
Mr. Joseph V. Walsh of Saint John, NB, husband of Mrs. Marie V. (Doucet) Walsh left us peacefully while surrounded by family on Saturday November 9, 2002 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Joseph was born in Saint John and was a son of the late Louis and Katherine Q. (Weir) Walsh. Joseph served his country during WW II and later worked for 45 years as a Stevedore with the International Longshormans' Association, Local #273. His many interests outside of work included his dedication to his family as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather and his love of his church but he found time for the Fundy Dahlia Society, fishing, hunting and gardening too. His passion for growing Dahlias and Gladiolas earned him the regal title "Dahlia King". Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by his infant son John Robert Walsh, and siblings Eva, Hazel, Louis, Lil, Mary, Percy, Merlin, John and Jimmy and his son-in-law Dave Lifford. Joseph married his loving bride Mary, 53 years ago this Friday, November 15th. Besides Mary, he is also survived by his children; Joseph Jr. (Helen), Nelson (Theresa), Richard (Carol), Cathy Lifford, Donna Rose (George), Danny (Kerry) and Lisa Walsh (Robin Trim). He is also survived by two sisters Myrtle and Barbara. Papa will be sadly missed by his 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joachims Church on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at 11:00 AM, with cremation to follow. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery on Thursday. Visitation will be on Tuesday only from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424).
