Obituary of Ernest Alfred Hughes
The death of Ernest Alfred (Ernie) Hughes, husband of the late Margaret (Greig) Hughes, occurred on October 23, 2002, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Ernest James and Violet May (Galbraith) Hughes. He was a veteran of WW II having served with Royal Canadian Air Force. He was employed as a mechanist with Stevenson Ltd. and then Irving Pulp and Paper before his retirement. He was a life member of the Paper Workers Union. After his retirement he volunteered with Extra Mural Hospital. He was a member of the Dairy Zone Senior Citizens. He is survived by his children Dawn and her husband Jerry Hurley of Saint John, Beverly and her husband Medar Gionet of Bascaraquet, NB, Debbie and her husband Stuart Sullivan of Kingston, NB, Catherine and her husband Mike Clain of Saint John, Andrew and his wife Katherine of Norton, his step-children Jan and her husband John Nesbitt of Upperton, Brian and his wife Julia Fillmore of Saint John, his brother John C. Hughes of Grand Bay-Westfield, his ten grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and two nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute to a Veteran's Service Friday at 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2002, at 11:00 AM, from Brenan's Chapel. Following cremation interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances made to the New Brunswick Lung Association or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
