Obituary of Heiltje Elsie Halback

Heiltje Elsie Halback died peacefully with courage and dignity in her fight against cancer, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Elsie was a very intelligent and gifted woman and lived her life with honesty, integrity and sincerity. During her 80 years she touched the hearts of many people and will not only be dearly missed by her husband, John; son, Richard and his wife, Dr. Karen Forgie; and her many fiends. Enjoying life is extracting from it what goodness there is and finding happiness is a choice each of us must make. Sixty-two years ago, I made this choice, when I married Elsie in Holland at the end of WWII. I found goodness in Elsie and happiness at the same time, she was my soul mate for the rest of her life. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. There will be no services at Elsie’s request. A donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A special thanks to Dr. Christopher O’Brien and Dr. Julia Wildish and all nurses and people working at the Palliative Care Unit for their diligence in the care of all patients and thoughtfulness to all families. A very special thanks to Extra-mural Care nurses and all people who are entwined with the Extra-Mural Team. A very special thanks to RN Mary Pearce for her dedicated care and support to Elsie and family.
