Obituary of Mary A. Hanson

On Wednesday, October 31, 2007, Mary Agnes Fargo Hanson, daughter of Catherine Eberle and Steve Fargo was born in Portage, Wisconsin. She was predeceased by her parents and one sister, Phyllis Ann Munz. She is survived by her husband John, sons John (Kathryn), Peter (Brenda), Robert (Brenda), and six grandchildren (Karen, Mark, Matthew, Daniel, Ryan and Rebecca), a niece Louise (Ken) and two nephews. Michael (Jean) and Daniel. Mary was active in St. Pius X Parish. She chaired the Liturgy Committee, sang in the choir, and was on the Parish Council, and took part in the social life of the Church. She was a long-time member of the Aquatic Centre. She loved jazz music and worked many years with the Jazz Society. She was on the committee that organized the first Jazz Festival in Saint John. She loved gardening and the raising of flowers, and she had a garden at the Community Garden for several years. She loved to cook, bake and watch the food channel on TV. She was a gifted artist who studied with Ray Butler and Herzl Kashetsky. Mary graduated from the Richland County Normal School and the University of Wisconsin … Platteville. She taught in several one-room country school houses, 3rd grade in Waterloo, Mukwonago, Wauzeka and Lodi in Wisconsin, as well as one year in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia. In Saint John she had worked at the Delta Brunswick, the Public Library and H & R Block. Donations may be made to the St. Pius X Building Fund, the Cancer Society, the Oncology Department of the Saint John Regional Hospital, or the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. She and her family wish to thank all of the many Doctors, Nurses and Personnel at the Regional and St. Joseph’s Hospitals, as well as her many friends, for their wonderful care and compassion during Mary’s long and heroic fight against cancer. They also wish to thank the Canadian Blood Centre and the many people who donated blood and platelets for her use. Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), on Thursday evening, November 1st 7 … 9 p.m. and on Friday, November 2nd 2 … 4 and 7 … 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 3rd, 2007 from St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Following cremation, she will be interred in St. Killian’s Cemetery in Bear Valley, Wisconsin, at a later date.
