Obituary of Miriam Louisa deForest

Miriam “Mern” deForest, of Saint John passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, May 24th, 2009 at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. She was born on February 25th , 1918 at Saint John to the late Fredrick and Grace (McDermid) Smyth. She was the widow of the late Arthur deForest who passed away in 1995. Miriam was a member of St. Paul’s (Valley) Anglican Church, where she was involved in the Needlework Society and Ladies Guild. She was also a past member of the Katherine E. Black Chapter of the IODE. Miriam loved to play Bridge, work in her flower gardens at her summer home in Acamac and knit for her grandchildren. Miriam is survived by her three children: Anne Nixon (Donald) of Richmond, QC, John (Vicky) of Coldbrook, NS and Stephen deForest (Brenda) of Saint John, NB; five grandchildren: Sean, Erin and Julie Nixon of Richmond, QC, Ryan deForest of Halifax, NS and Robyn deForest of Saint John; two nieces: Sandra Dimock (Errol) of Salisbury, NB and Susan Foshay of Halifax, NS and several cousins. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, May 27, 2008 from 1:30 … 2:30 pm. The funeral service will follow the visitation in Brenan’s Chapel at 2:30 pm. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the St. John and St. Stephen Van Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice. A special thank you to the staff of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home for their wonderful care, love and support of Miriam during her six years of residency.
