Obituary of James Douglas Straight
James Douglas Straight of Saint John, husband of Nettie F. (Mallory) Straight, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, following a period of failing health. Born at Boston, Massachusetts on September 24, 1930, he was a son of the late Ottis and Pearl (Campbell) Straight. Jim worked as a longshoreman for most of his working life, retiring in 1989. He liked hunting, fishing, and gardening, and was an avid bowler. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Jim is survived by his children, Brian Straight (Cecelia), Dianna Miller (Robert), William Straight (Leanne), all of Saint John, Judy Straight Griggs (David) of Fredericton, and Andrew Straight of Saint John; grandchildren Chad and Melanie Straight, Chris, Craig, and Kelly Miller, Leah and Krista Straight, Jaret and Claire Griggs; great grandson Talon James; siblings Marilyn Clarke (Lloyd) of Saint John, Sandra Straight of Brownwood, Texas, Arilla Clarke of Cambridge, ON, Agnes Wheeler of London, ON, and Reggie Straight of Saint John; several nieces and nephews, including Bonnie Straight (her daughter Alesha and Alesha’s son Isiah) and Reggie Straight (Sarah), both of Saint John, and James Mallory of Sussex. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by brothers Richard and Ken Straight. Although there will be no visitation time, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Monday at 2:00 PM. For those who wish, remembrances to the Extra Mural Foundation, Bobby’s Hospice, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
