Obituary of John Parker Reed

John Parker Reed of Saint John, husband of Sally I. (Hodd) (Martin) Reed, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Saint John Residential Hospice, following a battle with cancer. Born at Hampton on September 22, 1935, he was a son of the late Ethel (Parker) (Reed) (Smith) Lent and the late John G. D. Reed. After graduation from Saint John High School, John worked for several companies, including Marcus Furniture, I.G.A., the Longshoreman’s Association, Canada Packers, and Kimberly Clark Ltd, from which he retired. John was an avid reader, and loved to go for walks and to dance. He was United by faith. In addition to his wife, John is survived by a daughter, Cindy MacFarland (Fred) of Clifton Royal; two sons, Mark Reed (Edna) of Saint John, and Jon Reed of Saint John; the mother of his children, Dorothy Hutchinson; step-children Norman Martin (Ardith) of Waterborough, David Martin (Jeanne) of Saint John, Louise Hanlon (Don) of Burton, Daniel Martin, Martin Martin (Lisa), and Ronald Martin (Janice), all of Saint John; grandchildren Wayne, Heidi, Nicheal, Selena, William, Angela, Janelle, Gabriel, Matthew, Geoffrey, Tristan, Jake, and Mitch; great grandchildren Cameron, Natalee, and Gabrielle; and several cousins. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
