Obituary of Donald Bertram Furrow
Donald Bertram Furrow of Quispamsis, formerly of Saint John, husband of the late Jean (McLellan) Furrow, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. Born at Hartin Settlement, York County on June 29, 1923, he was a son of the late Thomas Andrew and Elizabeth (Wright) Furrow. Don spent his early years on the homestead farm before moving to McAdam to work with the Canadian Pacific Railway. He subsequently moved to Saint John to work at the Irving Oil Refinery as a maintenance mechanic for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Black Watch, and a charter member of Forest Hills United Baptist Church. In retirement Don and Jean enjoyed travelling, visiting family and friends along the way. Don is survived by his children, Edward (Sandra) of Calgary, Sydney (Jane) of Houston, Texas, David (Melissa) of Halifax, and Lona Murray (Rob) of Quispamsis; a daughter-in-law, Janet Furrow-Joyce of Quispamsis; grandchildren Brent, Scott, Craig, Brittany, Matthew, Bartholomew, Krystal, and Nicholas; a sister, Velma Fraser (Burton) of Saint John; a brother, Lester Furrow (Sonya) of Canterbury; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife who predeceased him in November, 2009, Don was predeceased by a son, Timothy; brothers Guy, Hazen, Harley and twin brother Ronald; and by sisters Pearl Johnson, Elva Dow, Helen MacMillan, and Phyllis Swim. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-8:30 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Forest Hills Baptist Church. Interment will take place in the Lower Meductic Cemetery on Sunday at 11:30 AM.
