Obituary of Marion E. Kirkpatrick

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home. Born July 23, 1911 at Gondola Point, NB she was a daughter of the late Amelia Morella (Saunders) and Thomas James Kirkpatrick. Upon the death of her father in 1913 the family moved to Saint John, NB. She attended Aberdeen School and was a member of Germain Street Baptist Church and Sunday School. She worked for three years in the Cotton Mill in Saint John before moving to Boston in 1928 to live with her mother and step-father, William Black. Marion went to work in a Chemical Factory in Boston where she remained for over 25 years until the factory relocated to New York. She worked at other jobs in the Boston area until her retirement in 1972. Marion was a member of the Clarendon Street Baptist Church for 56 years from 1928-1984. On the death of her mother in 1965 her and her brother Howard continued to live at 11 Bond Street, Boston until 1984, at which time Howard being in ill health they moved back to Saint John. She was always very fond of children and also enjoyed doing volunteer work with senior citizens and in the nursing homes. Marion enjoyed walking and thought nothing of walking from her home in East Saint John to King Street and shop in the market. She had her own vegetable garden and enjoyed picking berries which she generously shared with friends and neighbors. Upon returning to Saint John in 1984 she became a member of the Tabernacle United Baptist Church and remained until the present. She enjoyed visiting her nieces and nephews in Needham, Mass, Toronto and her sister and nephew in Nova Scotia. Marion is survived by her nieces and nephews, Beatrice Dagdigian of Needham, Mass; Jeanette Duvall of Needham; Gloria Seeley of British Columbia; Marion Roberts of Toronto, ON; Robert Kirkpatrick of Riverview, NB; Cecil Kirkpatrick of Saint John; Jim Carter of Nova Scotia and Fred Kirkpatrick of Miramichi, NB; as well as a large number of grand nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her five brothers, Albert, Fred, Thomas, Howard and Earl; one sister, Ethel Carter; two nieces, Doris Farin and Helen Greenlaw; two nephews, Richard Kirkpatrick and Stanley Kirkpatrick. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to Tabernacle United Baptist Church or any charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
