It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Sharon Lynn (Garnett) Smith of Saint John, NB, which occurred October 29, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on February 24, 1962, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth "Betty" (Baxter) and Harry "Humpsie" Garnett. She is survived by husband, Frank Smith; only son Frankie; her partner Gary Nilsson and step-daughters: Holly Scichilone (Scott), and Lisa Lawson (Mike). Sharon’s biggest gift was her son; she enjoyed watching him playing sports and was proud of all his accomplishments in school. Sharon had a double lung transplant Friday, May 13, 2005. She gained many transplant friends who she supported through their journey. She’ll always have them close to her heart. Sharon participated in the Canadian Transplant Games in Edmonton in 2006 where she won a silver medal in lawn bowling. She loved bowling and loved the Montreal Canadiens, her favorite player was #13, Mike Cammalleri. Special thanks goes out to Dr. Les Allaby, his secretary Mary Ellen, MICU (SJRH) and transplant team in Toronto for their kindness and support over the years. Sharon graduated from Simonds High School; she was formerly employed with Shoppers Drug Mart for 22 years and also was employed with Xerox. Sharon was Pentecostal by faith. She is survived by her siblings: Judy Garnett (Vic Ryan), Jean Freeze (Arnold Ferris), James Garnett, Brenda Bridges (Lloyd), Lloyd Garnett (Kim) and Faye Garnett and Sharon’s special girls: Jade, Amber and Abigail (Nana), several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Harry Garnett. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
