Obituary of Ernest Reginald Haslett

It is with deep sadness that the family of Ernest Reginald Haslett announces his passing on Tuesday, March 08, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Ernie was born in Saint John on April 26, 1930 and was the eldest son of Ernest and Mabel (Jenkins) Haslett. He was a much loved brother and is survived by his brother Kenneth (Trudi) Haslett, and sister-in-law Lorraine Haslett of Saint John having been predeceased by his sister Dorothy Silliphant, brother-in-law Donald Silliphant and brothers Carl and Douglas. He was the adored uncle of Deborah McEachern (Joe), Denise Coughlan (Don), Kim Losier, Shelly Fowlie (Darell), Brenda Breen (Peter), Elsa Russell (Pat) and nephew Ken Haslett Jr and a great uncle and great-great uncle of nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his generous spirit and humour. Ernie retired from the NB Power Commission in the spring of 1992. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed the camaraderie of time spent with good friends. He followed baseball and hockey and in his younger years he played on several softball and hockey teams. He changed cars on a regular basis and was known to have as many as three new vehicles in the span of a year. He had a lighthearted manner and great sense of humour, which gained him many good friends. Whether at the camp in Bayswater, the Millidgeville Over 65 Walk About Association or the Prince Edward Square social club, the constant sparkle in his eye, a teasing comment and quick wit will be missed. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row Saint John (506)634-7424 with visiting on Wednesday March 9, 2011 from 2:00PM to 9:00PM. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday March 10, 2011 at 12:00 noon with internment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, rememberances may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, The St Luke’s Church Building Fund, Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of the donors choice.
