Obituary of Malcolm Burpee Scott
Malcolm Burpee "Chip" Scott of Saint John, husband of the late Eveline I. (Taylor) Scott, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Centre. Born at Saint John on November 9, 1921, he was a son of the late Walter and Harriett (Belyea) Scott. Chip was formerly employed with the City of Saint John as a horticulturist, looking after the many gardens of the city. He was a Veteran of World War II, where he served as a Sergeant with the Royal Canadian Artillery. In his spare time, Chip was an avid harness racing fan, and even later in life continued with his love of gardening. He was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church and the Loyal Orange Lodge. Chip is survived by his children, Catherine Scott of Moncton, Matthew Scott of Fredericton, and Malcolm Scott of Saint John; grandchildren Joshua, Benjamin, Sydney, Taylor, Colin, Draydon, and Ashley; step grandchildren Rebecca and Jacob; great grandchildren Madison, Harmony, and Joshua Cash; brothers and sisters-in-law Gwendolyn Scott of Saint John, Patricia Scott of Mississauga, Ontario, Lida Kierstead, Eve Lee, Carol Taylor, Myrtelle Speight (Abby), Doris Taylor, Donald J. Taylor (Brenda), and Judith Galbraith (Kenneth) all of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Chip was predeceased by brothers and sisters Winnifred Scott, Ruth Ricker, Walter (Pete) Scott, Norman Scott, Gerald Scott, and Donald Scott. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, August 1, 2011 from 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Ridgewood Veteran’s Centre Van Fund would be appreciated by the family. A Royal Canadian Legion Veteran's Tribute Service will be held on Monday at 7 PM at the funeral home.
