Obituary of Mary 'Rose' Hatchette

Surrounded by her loving family, the death of Rose Hatchette, wife of the late Richard "Dick" Ross Hatchette occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, October 11, 2013. Born in Saint John, NB on May 7, 1923, she was a daughter of the late George "Leo" and Agnes (Love) McCarthy. Rose was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A lifetime member of St. Peter’s Parish, Rose spent many years serving with the CWL and the St. Elizabeth’s Society. She especially enjoyed attending the Wednesday morning gatherings at St. Peter’s Hall with her friends. She loved a good game of Auction 45’s and in her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and working at F. W. Woolworth. Rose loved spending time at the family cottage in Chapel Grove. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all had a very special place in her heart. Rose is survived by her daughter, M. Elizabeth "Beth" Nicholas (Graydon) of Fredericton; her son, J. Richard "Rick" Hatchette of Saint John; grandchildren: Michael Nicholas of Fredericton, and Brian Nicholas (Joanne Porter) of Kingman, AZ; great-grandson, Cato Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Allison Nicholas; sister-in-law, Shirley Stegmayer; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Hatchette; and brothers: Leonard and Arthur McCarthy. The family would like to thank the staff of 5CN of the Saint John Regional Hospital and the staff of the Turnbull Nursing Home for their professional and compassionate care of Rose. The family is appreciative to Father John Beaumaster and Father David Fulton for their pastoral visits and spiritual care during Rose’s last days. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506) 634-7424, with visiting on Monday, October 14, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances to Turnbull Nursing Home or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
