Obituary of Eileen M. Hughes

The family of Eileen M. Hughes (Colgan) of 65 Parks Street, wishes to announce her passing on June 2, 2013. Born in Saint John on September 11, 1923, she was a daughter of the late David and Blanche (Harrington) Colgan and wife of the late Arthur F. Hughes.Eileen attended Mount Carmel Academy and graduated from St. Vincent’s Girls High School. She retired from the Admitting Department of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Eileen was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Church CWL and was also a member of St. Vincent’s Alumnae and Probus.She is survived by her children, David Hughes of Saint John; Kathleen Foster (Mark) of Rothesay; Kevin Hughes (Cindy) of Saint John and Margo Hughes (Derek) of St. John’s, NL; six grandchildren, Margo, Luke and Erica Foster and Alexander, Emma and Rory Hughes; two siblings, Frances Colgan of Saint John and Mary Elizabeth Miller (Daniel) of Longboat Key, Florida; several nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers, David and James and special niece, Mary Jane Colgan MacDonald.Eileen’s humour, kindness and love will be dearly missed. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the caring staff of Rocmaura.Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 and Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Trinity Church on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Romero House, the Canadian Cancer Society, Rocmaura Foundation or donor’s choice.
