Obituary of Colleen Opal Laking

It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Colleen Opal Laking, which occurred at Kennebec Manor on Saturday, September 28, 2013. Colleen was born on March 28, 1928 in Vanceboro, Maine. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Ronald Arthur, on November 29, 2011. Colleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great pride in her appearance and in her home. She was a wonderful cook and thoughts of her delicious homemade mincemeat, mustard pickles, butterscotch tarts and broccoli with cheese sauce brings to mind fond memories. Colleen enjoyed playing the piano, craft fairs, shopping, country music, a good dance with R.A. and wonderful family get-togethers. She is survived by her children, Donna Rogers of Brewer, Maine, David Laking (Diane) of Truro, Nova Scotia and Darlene Boyle (Barry) of Saint John; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Harrison (Scott), Christina Babin (Butch), Rhonda Thibert (Kevin), Neil Laking (Kim), Erin Laking (Rob), Brent Boyle and Blane Boyle; as well as 8 great-grandchildren, Kali and Kyle Harrison, Olivia Babin, Allison and Samuel Thibert, Hazen and Amelia Laking and Rowan Laking Jones. Sincere thanks to the staff of Kennebec Manor for the loving care given to Mom. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 11:00 – 12:00 PM, which will be immediately followed by the funeral service at 12:00 Noon, all from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
