Obituary of Hormisdas Joseph Basque

The death of Hormisdas Basque of Saint John, beloved husband of Bertha (Pinet) Basque, occurred on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Kennebec Manor. Born on June 26, 1927 in St-Pons, NB and baptized in Rivière-du-Portage, NB, he was the son of the late Isaïe and Cesarée (Thibodeau) Basque. Hormisdas loved surrounding himself in nature and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a skilled fiddle player and a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Bertha, Hormisdas is also survived by their children, Geraldine Graves (Bruce), Donald, Theresa Gilks, Yvon (Catherine), Stanley (Bette), Odette McGrath (Tim) and Noella McPhee; sisters, Aldora Hampton and Geraldine Hill; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his great-grandson, Matthew and numerous sisters and brothers. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 7-9 PM and Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, Saint John on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 12:10 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
