Obituary of Ernest Mariner Barker

It is with great sadness that the family of Ernest Barker (Grumpy), loving husband of Dolores (Sparkes) Barker, announces his passing which occurred on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on May 6, 1931 and was a son of the late Noman (Frank) and Iona Barker. Ernest was better known as Grumpy by those who knew him well. He was a collector of many things and enjoyed fiddling around with things in the yard. Grumpy loved cars and going for drives. He was a relentless tease who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family; his grandkids meant the world to him. He was ever present in the lives of those he loved. Ernest will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years Dolores, his children: Derrick (Kim) Barker, Darcy (Tracey) Barker and Vance Barker, his grandchildren: Katrina, Sirena, Taylor, Aaron, Denise, Lisa, Danni Lyn, Darcie Lee and Destiny, his many great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and members of his extended family. Besides his parents, Ernest was predeceased by his two sons: David and Danny, his identical twin brother Peter and his other siblings: Mary, Josie, Bernie, Doris and Edna. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 12:30 PM at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
