Obituary of Lena Mae Sheehan

It is with heavy hearts the family of Lena Mae (Doucette) Sheehan announces her passing. With her daughter Tessy (Teresa) by her side, she passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Thomas "Bunny" Sheehan and the daughter of the late Ernest Joseph and Margaret Mary (Munro) Doucette. Lena was educated at St. Peter’s Girls Catholic School. She was a "jack of all trades and master of none". She worked several jobs over the years including: McCready’s Pickle Factory, Shaw’s Clam Factory, Willitt Foods and Rankin’s Bakery. She worked as a waitress at Wasson’s Spa on King Street, the Empire Café and Dan’s Restaurant. Lena and Tom owned two taxies, she drove for both Diamond Taxi and Bayside Taxi (Midway Taxi) in the early 1970s. Just to name a few of her many accomplishments – she was a former Vice President of St. Peter’s CWL as well as a member of St. Peter’s choir and former Vice President of the North End Progressive Conservative party. She was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion Jervis Bay Branch #53 and a member of the P.P.C.L.I Ladies’ Auxiliary in Alberta and Atlantic Canada, R.A.O.B of Saint John. She participated in several choirs including Tattoo 200 in Halifax, Canada Games 1985 and Festival by the Sea. She loved to quilt, sew, dance and sing. Music kept her smiling and happy. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 41 years Thomas "Bunny" Sheehan in 1991, daughter Kelly Rose (2004), granddaughter Christina Marie, daughters-in-law Linda (Clain) Sheehan and Sharon (Hayward) Sheehan; sister-in-law Vera Sheehan, brother in law Percy Alliston Sr., and brothers: Joseph William "Billy" and his wife Vera, Edward "Eddie" and his wife Lillian and Beverly "Bambie"; and sisters: Kathleen (Harrison) Talbot, Rose Masten and Shirley Lowe and her husband Frank. She is survived by one sister Mary Margaret (Doucette) Alliston of Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John; one son Thomas Harold Sheehan Jr. (Alice) of Mannville, AB; daughters: Teresa "Tessy" Tompkins of Woodstock, Patricia "Pat" Blizzard of Mannville, AB, Bonnie "Gérène" Richard of Moncton, and her ‘other’ daughter Annabel Vickers of Salmon Creek; and sisters-in-law: Mary (Wilcox) Doucette of Quispamsis, Florence Sheehan of Upper Gagetown, Kathleen "Kay" Aucoin and Mary (Terry) Mason both of Saint John. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, including her "three muskateers" - Megan Shannon (Aly Hodd) of Fredericton, Adam and Christopher Shannon of Hartland; 25 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. The Memorial Service will be held immediately following visitation at 2:00 PM in Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Lena may be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
