Obituary of Louise Ann Black

Louise Ann Black died peacefully on February 20, 2017 at Embassy Hall, Parkland In The Valley, Quispamsis. She was born October 15, 1917 in Winnipeg and had lived since a child with her aunt and uncle, Howard and Pearl Robinson, in Saint John. She graduated from Netherwood School in Rothesay in 1936, and afterwards attended the Spicer School in London, England in 1937. During World War II she served in the British Ministry of War Transport, which was organising ship convoys to Great Britain out of the Port of Saint John. She attended St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Saint John. She was a long time member of the Katherine E. Black Chapter I.O.D.E. and performed volunteer work in service of local charities like the Tuberculosis Society, and in nursing homes. Louise and her husband, Roland M. Black, were avid sailors and enjoyed many years on the Saint John River and the Coast of Maine, and were members of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club. They were both strong supporters of the local community and were long-time residents of Low Wood Estates in Rothesay, and enjoyed many winters in North Palm Beach, Florida. Louise was preceded in death by her husband in 2011. She is survived by her son, John R. H. Black and his wife Janice of Chicago, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. They would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Concorde Hall and Embassy Hall., Parkland In The Valley, Quispamsis, and to Velma Comeau, who were invaluable to her care. The wonderful long time support by Lori Woodroffe Doyle and that of other friends who made countless visits to Louise in her later years are truly appreciated. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). As requested, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be arranged with Fernhill Cemetery at a later date to be announced through Brenan’s Funeral Home. For those who wish, donations to local charities would be appreciated.
